Mahatma Gandhi
Nonviolence Advocate
What does Jesus mean to me? To me, he was one of the greatest teachers humanity has ever had.
And because the life of Jesus has the significance and the transcendency to which I have alluded, I believe that he belongs not solely to Christianity but to the entire world, to all races and people.
Non-violence is the greatest force at the disposal of mankind. It is mightier than the mightiest weapon of destruction devised by the ingenuity of man.
They may torture my body, break my bones, even kill me. Then they will have my dead body, but not my obedience.
There are many causes I would die for. There is not a single cause I would kill for.
When the practice of nonviolence becomes universal, God will reign on earth as God does in heaven.
The enemy is fear. We think it is hate; but, it is fear.
Violence is the fear to the ideals of the others.
The greatness of humanity is not in being human, but in being humane.
When your country and mine shall get together on the teachings laid down by Christ in this Sermon on the Mount, we shall have solved the problems not only of our countries but those of the whole world.
